Australia loves to celebrate a healthy lifestyle, and why not? Exercise gives you endorphins and endorphins make you happy! Based on this logic, participating in Sydney’s Running Festival is going to put you and the family over the moon! This event is truly for every athletic capability as it has everything from a full 42.2 km marathon, to a half marathon, a 9 km bridge run, and a 4 km family fun run. This is sure to be an amazing time for everyone as the course guides participants past some the amazing views that make up Sydney, Australia – traversing the Harbour Bridge and finishing at the Opera House.
This year, the event takes place on Sunday, September 18, in Bradfield Park, just a short drive or jog away from The Macleay Hotel. Certainly, this event is one of the more unique experiences the city puts on for runners, so it’s important to learn how to get ready so you don’t miss out on all the activities.
Before you cross the finish line, you have to properly prepare for all the fun. Here’s what you should do.
Book a room at The Macleay Hotel
This is one of the biggest steps you need to do to prep for the big day. Here, you’ll have the proper accommodation to get a good night’s rest the evening before the race. Don’t wake up groggy otherwise you know you’re going to be void of all the energy you need to participate in all the fun! Once the race is over, you can return to the hotel and indulge in a refreshing shower to rinse off all that sweat. After that, crawl into bed and rest your weary self!
Fuel up with a healthy meal
You know you have to carb up before the big day! Fortunately, once you’ve booked a stay at The Macleay, there’s plenty of awesome food options to chose from right in the area. Potts Point is famous for its many amazing eateries, so no matter what food you use to fuel your body with, you know you’ll be taken care of here. To note, a healthy meal consists of a mix of regular carbohydrates and easily digestible foods. This is no time to slurp up creamy soups or treat yourself to sweets. These will only make you tired. Of course, don’t fix what isn’t broken – if you have a pre-race diet, stick to it!
And most importantly: stay hydrated!
Taper and put your feet up
Tapering is key before a big race. You might be incredibly eager to enjoy a full day of sightseeing around Sydney, but you should definitely save it for after the race! Fortunately, you’ve got a great view of the city right from your room at The Macleay, so you won’t feel like you’re missing out in the meantime. Of course, once you’ve properly rested after the race you can go nuts – the hotel is located right around the corner from all the best attractions.
You’ll want to get your muscles a little warmed up however, so head to the hotel’s outdoor pool for some light swimming. This is the perfect cross-training activity because it’s easy on the joints – just don’t go too hard.
The Sydney Running Festival is a great time for all, especially when you make the most of the event by staying at the Macleay Hotel. Once you’re done resting after the race, head out and enjoy what the rest of the city has to offer. You won’t be disappointed!
