Sydney is the perfect city to explore with your gal pals. What’s not to love? It’s got great food, drink, nightlife, shopping, beaches and cultural activities to keep you entertained. In honour of International Women’s Day on March 8, we give you the lowdown on what you can do here with the ladies.
Eat: The Grounds of Alexandria
A firm favourite of Sydney locals, the sublimely Instagrammable food and surrounds at The Grounds of Alexandria make the perfect spot for a weekend coffee or brunch. Catch a train from nearby Kings Cross station to Green Square and The Grounds will be just a 10 minutes’ walk away.
Drink: The Winery
Mingle with Sydney’s trendy crowd in the vibrant suburb of Surry Hills. Sip on a glass of vino in the beautiful outdoor garden area of The Winery, or order a refreshing jug of Pimms to share with all the girls.
Watch: French Film Festival
Indulge in a bit of culture with the Alliance Française French Film Festival, which will be happening in Sydney from March 7-30 and features some top-quality female-directed films. You can also enter a competition to win you and your bestie a trip to France or New Caledonia so you can continue the holiday!
Chill: Bronte Beach
A girls’ weekend in Sydney wouldn’t be complete without some beach time. Hop on a train to Bondi Junction – only two stops from Kings Cross – and do the Bondi to Coogee walk. En route, stop at gorgeous Bronte Beach, slip into your bikini and sunbathe or take a dip. Just remember to rub in that sunscreen (if you’re single, you can ask the nearest cute surfer or lifeguard to help you out!).
Shop: weekend markets
Sydney’s weekend markets are a must for shopaholics. At Rozelle, Glebe, the Rocks and Manly, you’ll find local artists and fashionistas selling their second-hand clothes, art, jewellery and much more. Treat yourself or pick up some souvenirs for friends and family back home.
Use these ideas as a starting point to celebrate being the kick-ass females that you are in Australia’s favourite city (sorry Melbourne!). After you’ve pampered yourselves thoroughly, you’ll need a fabulous room to rest your weary heads. Located in the trendy and super central suburb of Potts Point, The Macleay Hotel is right in the middle of all the action.
