Take a moment to think about how you unwind at the end of a long day. Everyone has their own de-stressing techniques, but we all probably have one element in common. No matter the activity, it’s highly likely that you are doing it with a nice, tall glass of wine in hand. And if you’re not, you’re probably wishing for one.
The good news is that you won’t have to go far from your room at The Macleay Hotel to get a refreshing glass of wine in Sydney. Australia is one of the top wine producing nations in the world because of its ideal grape growing environment. We’ve got your official wine guide that you can follow through Sydney’s tasty wine country in Hunter Valley. Make a whole day of it, and check out these must-sip vineyards below.
Audrey Wilkinson
Let’s start with a fun fact about this winery. It was named after none other than Audrey Wilkinson – but Audrey is no lady, Audrey is a man! But man oh man did that guy have a taste for good wine as this vineyard produces some of the best in Australia. While you’re sipping away at the chardonnays and shirazs, you’ll also be able to feast your eyes on this amazingly picturesque valley. Stopping here is an absolute must.
Scarborough Wine Co
Wine with a view, that’s the Scarborough Wine Co experience. If you’re a feign for chardonnay, look no further than this winery. Test the three variations of their signature chardonnay before you move on to the pinot noir rose in the superb Hunter Valley Cellar Doors wine tasting experience. This is a family-operated vineyard, everything from the grape growing to the marketing, and is now recognised as one of the best wineries in the region!
Krinklewood Biodynamic Vineyard
This is an incredibly unique vineyard as it is 100 per cent biodynamic, sustainable farm and product, so you’ll feel good about this organic wine and dine experience. French-inspired, you can’t go wrong with any of the wines you try. Everything from the French-style dry rose to the classic Hunter Valley shiraz. Be sure to take a walk around the gardens filled with romantic urns and fountains to really complete the experience!
